Valiant Announces X-O MANOWAR with Venditti & Nord

We’ve known it’s coming for a while, but we didn’t know who or what it would be. Today the speculation around the new line of Valiant Comics turns to fact as Valiant announced the first title from the new line of comics along with it’s creative team. X-O Manowar #1 will hit comic stands on May 2, 2012 with writer Robert Venditti and artist Cary Nord, featuring covers by Esad Ribic.

Venditti is best known as the writer of The Surrogates, the hit series from Top Shelf that was turned into a movie starring Bruce Willis.  Artist Cary Nord is best known for his work at Marvel and at Dark Horse on Conan and fans should be familiar with Esad Ribic from his covers on Uncanny X-Force.

Valiant Comics provided us a sneak peek of Cary Nord’s art on X-O Manowar #1 including his cover to the issue, along with Ribic’s cover (right).

  1. I got a great Punisher sketch from Cary so the art should at least be good!

  2. Remember that Iron Man/X-O Manowar game for Playstation. Good times, good times.

I loved The Surrogates…haven’t read the second one that came out, but really loved the first one. Plus, Venditti is one of the coolest creators I’ve met so far, so I’m definitely supporting this.

  3. *gleefully hands over money*

  4. Those are some nice, tight pencils. And after The Surrogates and Homeland Directive, I’m looking forward to what Venditti does with this book.

  5. How long until we get another Valiant/Image crossover?

  6. I thought to myself:

“X-O Manowar? Marvel has done it again with naming X-Events!”

  7. Valiant indeed. I wish them success but, alas, there’s no much room in my pull-list for them unless they produce something really outstanding.

  8. This looks promising. Loved Nord’s Conan stuff and that cover is brilliant.

  9. I was hoping this would be about guys in furry chaps playing metal.

  10. You got your barbarian in my armor, you got your armor on my barbarian!

    I LOVE BARBARIANS IN ARMOR!!!

    Yay!

    *Now w/ Spider aliens!!!

  11. i remember getting a couple of random issues of x-o when I was young and it didn’t make the slightest bit of sense to me, but I enjoyed looking at it anyways, might pick this up in hopes of fixing the OMAC shaped hole in my heart

  12. Color me there! I remember falling in love with XO Manowar with that awesome chromium cover by Joe Quesada. Course, back then i devoured everything Quesada. Will they be bringing back Ninjack? Cause that would be pretty awesome.
