The Best of the Week in Panels – 05/26/10

Panels are where they keep the art. The more you know…

Superman War of the Supermen #4

Superman: War of the Supermen #4

I'm not anything remotely like a dog person, but even I was jazzed when Krypto came to Supergirl's rescue as she was taking an epic beatdown from Ursa on the lawn of the White House. Get 'er, boy!

Thunderbolts #1

Thunderbolts #1

Man-Thing will peer deep within your soul! He will learn your secrets and lies!

Power Girl #12

Power Girl #12

This sequence is fantastic and encapsulates everything I will miss about Amanda Conner's art on this book, and just on a monthly basis in general. Everything about it so well thought out and none of the art in the panels are wasted. We get an entire little mini sotry/comedy routine told almost completely silently. Power Girl's facial expressions are great as she tries to figure out how to eat this alien food on the plate in front of her, and on the plate itself, almost unnoticed, drama unfolds as we see that the the green triangles aren't actually food, but creatures holding up the real food. Nothing in the panel is wasted.

  1. I love Krypto.

  2. Dan Dan says:

I always saw Conner’s art as the second coming of Kevin Maguire — and there isn’t a damn thing wrong with that. Hopefully her next project will put her in the upper echelon of comic artists where she belongs.

  3. That Man-Thing panel is creepier then I thought. Plus that is an adorable moment in Power Girl.

Thor had a great moment though involving Kelda and Bill. I’m glad that Gillen is bringing these two back together in some capacity. The panel where Bill is trying to find Mayo in Valhalla is gold.

  4. jmstump jmstump says:

WOTS #5 was Krypto’s book.  If it weren’t for him people would have died.

That’s right as far as I’m concerned Krypto, not Superman, saved everyone’s asses this month.

    Good Dog.

  5. blulew23 blulew23 says:

Conner is an incredible story teller. Can’t wait to see what she does next.

  6. Bryce31 Bryce31 says:

I’m definently gonna miss Power Girl with it’s current creative team.

  7. wayne2001bc wayne2001bc says:

That Power Girl sequence is neat.  Not sure if I would’ve noticed that the green triangles are actually aliens.  Nice example of making the reader slow down to look more closely.

  8. OliverTwist OliverTwist says:

Man!! I had decided to wait to buy the trade for WOTS, and I am regreting every second of it.

  9. Fanteisimo says:

How could you leave out the panell from (deep breath) X-Men Second Coming Revelations Blind Science where Dr. Nemisis is attacked by Nazi dolphins? Dolphins with swasticas on them. Nazi dolphins!

  10. Simmons Simmons says:

If Conor didn’t point out all those little details in the Power girl strip, I would not have noticed, I guess I am too immature to notice good art when boobs are present.

  11. WheelHands WheelHands says:

That Man-Things panel gives me the heebie-jeebies.

  12. Saltyoldnavy says:

    great choices!

but i was kinda hoping to see the panel where the red lantern cat gets kicked with a green lantern boot from Hal

that scene made me laugh out loud

  13. bansidhewail bansidhewail says:

I love the panel when Dex-Starr saunters onto the subway car making a darling kitty cat purring sound and a coy kitty cat expression.  I’m such a sucker for that little guy!

  14. @Banshi: Yes.

  15. UncleBob UncleBob says:

look very quick and it looks like Power Girl has 3 moving nipples

  16. zenman zenman says:

Why is Power Girl eating Man-Thing eyeballs?

  17. BornIn1142 BornIn1142 says:

The page with the cat in Power Girl is just adorable.

  18. gregbmarcus gregbmarcus says:

The panel of the week… no… year…. had to be the red lantern cat getting the boot.

  19. Camden says:

I am really going to miss Amanda Conner’s Power Girl.

  20. jmack jmack says:

BEST PANEL WAS FROM GREEN LANTERN AFTER THE CAT MELTED THE "STREET TUFF" AND WAS STANDING OVER HIS ASHES.
