iFlashback! July 23rd, 2003

It’s time for iFlashback! A weekly feature in which we take a look at some comics that were on sale nine years ago. Why nine years and not ten? Well because our Mondays in 2012 sync up with the Wednesdays of 2003.

So jog down memory lane with me. The date is July 23rd, 2003. The number one film at the box office is Bad Boys 2 and these are some of the comics at your local comic book shop.

That was the week that was in comics! So tell me what you thought of the books that week. That Wildcats 3.0 book was fantastic! That was also the final issue of Christopher Priests great run on Black Panther. So, did you read any of these books? If so what did you think of them? Let us know!

Comments

  1. I wasn’t reading comics back then, but I’ve been wanting to read some Black Panther. I’ll have to check Christopher Priest out on MDCU (wow, didn’t realize how close that is to DCU…)

  2. What in the heck is that Geoff Johns series? Intrigued.

  3. oh Wildcats Version 3.0 how i miss you. You were a comic that we deserved and deserved to still be going today. it was the perfect example of post-modern comics

  4. X-Statix!!!!! I miss you so.

  5. I was reading Robin at this time. I remember it being pretty bad, but I think I was just buying it for those rad covers.

  6. Ah, two of my favorite titles from the early 00s. I loved Wildcats 3.0 even more than 2.0 and wish Casey would have had the chance to finish his tale as Milligan did with X-Statix… Ooh, and that elusive creator-owned Johns title. I thought Cliffhanger was over by this point except for the early “Maxx” trades but hey, don’t say Geoff never came up with anything original, fleeting as it was…

  7. Am I the only one who reads Simpsons/Futurama comics? I don’t read them all the time but when I do pick one up from time to time they are actually funny. When Futurama was off the air they had a good chunk of original writers writing the book so that was good….and most Simpsons comics are funnier then most episodes now a days.

I have a running sub to Simpsons Illustrated and read the occasional Bart Simpson and Futurama. I am also getting the Simpsons one shots (Ralph Wiggum, etc.).

  8. Wildcats version 3.0 and X-Statix are good stuff.
