I'll admit it - part of the problem is I'm AM reading the trades (for F.E.A.R. Agent at least).  I did pick up the latest Jonah Hex based on Cooke's participation, and based on what I read I'll definitely be going for the next couple of issues to see if it sticks.  Walking Dead and Invincible's latest trades have finally enabled me to catch up with the single issues so they're now part of my normal pull lists.

Scalped, DMZ, and POWERS are all in my stack (along with Queen and Country, Madman, and Umbrella Academy), and my hope is I'll get caught up enhough to get to the issues!

Josh - that was fantastic.  Your response to Mr. Moore's blog post was great, but to have a civilized confrontation that directly addressed the issue, allowed Moore to expand on the "whats" and "whys" of his post, and treated us to the best (and only to these ears) Kirkman impression EVER is the reason I follow this site.

The fact that a large percentage of reviewers and commentators found on iFanboy are in direct opposition to the "snarky, negative" (I'm paraphrasing here) types Moore rails against is another reason.  I'm firmly in my mid-30's, with a wife and 1-year old son, and have only recently re-ignited my passion for comics.  The information from the podcasts, reviews, and comments have helped me to discover a host of books - both mainstream and independent - I would otherwise never have tried.

So thanks again, and thanks to Mr. Moore, whose Hawaiian Dick (I cringe at the bad joke built into this sentence) I am immediately picking up.

 Eewww.

This continues to disappoint.  Bad dialog, action that couldn't be followed, and WAY too much that needs to be resolved with only one issue to go.  I was late to the game and bought issues 1-3 all at once, thinking "well, even though it's not great, with only two more issues how bad can it get?"

That yellow stuff?  Egg, all over my face.

Josh - simply a great response, not only for being well-reasoned but for not stooping to the same name-calling and insinuation that Mr. Moore (probably regretfully at this point) did in his post.  As someone who currently reviews other media (films/novels/music) and is only just beginning to re-acquaint myself with comics again (how your show/podcast/site factored into this decision is an entirely different story for another time), my biggest hurdle has been with those people who lash out with cries of "You just don't GET IT!" when responding to a less-than-positive review of something.  Even worse is the "who are YOU to criticize or comment on THIS THING I LOVE?!"

The simple answer to the above question is "I'm not YOU" and that's the whole point. I suspect that Mr. Moore was more than a little emotional when writing his post, because it seems a complete contradiction to cry "foul" at negative criticism on creator-owned books and then take swipes at Millar (who I believe has a number of creator-owned comics, as you observed), DC/Marvel writers and the readers who enjoy them.

Or, as they say, "Pot.  Meet Kettle."

Anyway, the thing is that regardless whether or not you're writing for hire (DC/Marvel) or you're writing for yourself, once the product's out there it becomes public domain for discussion and criticism, both positive and negative.  That's the deal with creating - as noted above, unless you're not sharing it, you're opening yourself up to feedback of all kinds.

And now excuse me for MY rant, when all I wanted to say was great post!

May 28, 2008 9:28 am If for nothing else than the sheer hype then FINAL CRISIS, but my heart goes strangely enough to GREEN LANTERN.  I started reading it at #29 to get back into comics and, after catching up with the trades absolutely love it.

Conor - apparently you fulfilled a life-long dream of Cornell's: he mentions his joy at being Pick of the Week over at his blog.  Link below:

It's towards the bottom of the post, but you can't miss it.  Especially the whole "iFanboy is my favorite podcast" thing!

May 14, 2008 9:33 am Great article, Conor, and your "opportunistic slumming" seems to be spot on.  On the other hand, I'm intrigued enough to now get out there and see the exhibition for myself.  I suspect that this will pass quickly and quietly, probably right after the next comic book movie (Hulk?) fails to live up to box office expectations.

Really great piece, Conor.  Now what we really need is someone to talk about THE FILTH, becuase I've tried at least 3 times and that issomething I just can't wrap my head around.

Oh, and thank you for recommending Morrison's run on JLA - I read the first two trades and it's great!
