May 11, 2013 7:25 pm @sitara119. This is part of the story about the genesis of the project: http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2012/09/rucka-and-williams-originally-were-set-for-wonder-woman-earth-one/
May 11, 2013 7:22 pm J h Williams on art with him too, it definitely would've been a pretty book
May 11, 2013 7:08 pm This was actually Greg Rucka's baby originally, he came up with the idea & brought it to dc, who then took him off of his own project & gave it to Morrison....while I am a big fan of Morrison, I would rather have read Rucka's take as it was the original inspiration of the idea....morrisons got ideas about everything Im sure, but when Rucka brings a project he's excited about to you, you should listen
April 22, 2013 4:59 pm Not a hater? Doesn't sound like it....that's akin to totally bashing someone & then saying "no offense"....the dude is a good writer, and this is an editorial column, would you rather he write about whatever is on your mind? To say that the method of releasing this series isn't interesting is just plain wrong, in that it bucks all the trends that we have come to know during an event book, from the shipping schedule to the tie in methods.......it's not your bag, I get that, but I'm personally enjoying it, along with most of the "worker bees" at the other sites I read, which have consistently rated it good or better....ultimately it's cool that marvel and dc are changing the way they approach events, how marvel is cutting the needless tie ins & forced impact linewide, and how dc seem to be going the crossover route with the event being portrayed solely in the series own issues....I personally thought it was an interesting read
January 14, 2013 5:35 pm thank you for this article....so many great points, so well written....it's nice to see a comics journo that isn't jaded & affected by kneejerk reactions, instead using their positions to possibly change some immature fan's minds....the reactions this book is getting is one of the most detrimental things to comics as a medium these days...god forbid anyone listen to these petition-writers (the overwhelmingly vast majority of who are not even reading the books), or we would have to put up w/ a string of stagnant stories in which nothing ever happens or harms our favorite characters...death is a fact of life, characters die, but in comics, creators have the potential to revive them at any point....the bottom line is that we don't know what hopeless' plans for the title even is at this point, although even if the deaths are permanent, like the writer said, these are characters that would otherwise be involved in nothing at all, much less a story w/ such stellar art & potential that this title has exhibited so far....if some creator wants to write a story w/ (a certain character who exploded) in 5 years, there is nothing stopping them from doing so, but because of this story he will also have a new wrinkle to explore that makes the character that much more interesting, that he was willing to pay the ultimate price for the woman that he loved, and whether or not he would've done it over again....remender is exploring a similar theme right now w/ the black ant, a character who bucks the usual trend and decides that his sacrifice was ultimately pointless and wrong in his eyes....people who write these comments, pieces & petitions should use their energy in more productive ways, let these creators play their stories out before you fling dookie at every aspect of it
January 10, 2013 12:02 pm all of that is definitely true....i hope you are right, because either of those would be pretty great...i read an article w/ jim starlin that kinda made it out that the miniseries didn't happen because of his relationship to the character, but that wouldn't make much sense unless he owned him, and he obviously doesn't...it would definitely be something new for aaron, and he's been great in most anything he's tried so far
January 9, 2013 3:50 pm i don't think the purple is going to be hardly tied to the book...most of the books have kept a color coded theme, and this one probably will in some way, but galactus & thanos might be a bit of a stretch....those would be great books, but they've never had the power to keep an ongoing for long, i personally think it will have to do w/ new mutants, that's one of the few successful titles that we have yet to see a marvel now analogue for, in light of brian wood's most likely reboot of x-men to an x-women title, i think this will be new mutants in a strictly literal sense, not necessarily using any of the latest incarnation of the team, but dealing w/ the resurgence of mutants
January 9, 2013 12:32 pm Might be an updated New Mutants title dealing w/ actual new mutants instead of the original team that comes to mind...I think they've said they have plans for that title before in a cryptic way, and Aaron would be perfect for that, cool mirror reflection of what bendis is doing in his 2 x-titles
January 8, 2013 1:12 pm Totally agreed..the people that are saying the change is uncharacteristic of Otto have obviously never paid close enough attention to the character,...he's always felt he was underestimated and underappreciated, even before he got the tentacles, in the light of his impending death it makes perfect sense that he would use this opportunity to try a different tactic, to earn the respect he's always desired, superior spider man is all about how he succeeds & fails in that regard....people that are fans enough to make it a career should be able to see these things
January 8, 2013 12:39 pm how is it that much of a stretch for otto to become a hero given a second chance at life after he was on death's door? The character has never been evil for evil's sake, and anyone who has read the books closely knows his need for attention was born out of a father that overlooked him & put him down & a mother that doted on him....since the character's introduction, his main hangup w/ spiderman is that he has felt he is squandering power & intelligence, and if only he could get the chance he has been given that he would be the 'superior' spider man....the flash alone wasn't the only thing that swayed him, it was just the slight push that was needed in order for him to try a new lease on life.....the people complaining about this are too shortsighted to see that this is a temporary change that allows the creators to look at the character of peter parker in a different light, in effect reenergizing the team, earning the marvel now banner, and the knee jerk reactions would probably be assuaged if people would wait for the series proper to get rolling, but my guess is that most of the people acting like this wouldn't allow themselves to enjoy it, no matter how good it is....it's indicative of the sad state of affairs in a socially networked fandom, too many people are concerned w/ their own feelings to put themselves in the shoes of the characters like we used to when we were young....when you were 12, did you complain about the tri sentinel showing up, or aunt may dying? I personally just read the books and got excited about the future of the character....long story short, this is a temporary change, and if people would let their emotional ties to the character go for a few months, they could be in for a new story, something that peter parker has been lacking for awhile.....if the character never changed people would be complaining then too
