Not really a “Batman RIP” tie-in, but still a pretty good book overall.  Essentially, Nightwing finds himself having to fight…

I've found this to be true even in other mediums, with non-central characters--for example, my first exposure to Spider-Man was from the old 60s animated show when I was a kid.  Because of that show, now--no matter what--whenever I read J. Jonah Jameson in a comic, I hear the raging, gravely tones of the old JJJ from the 60s cartoon in my head.  He's the quintessential Jameson for me, from Amazing Spider-Man to Ultimate Spider-Man to any of the offshoots.

It's good to hear someone else giving Amazing Spider-Man its due in an article like this.  Spidey has been my favorite comics character since I first saw him fight the power-line surfing Electro on the old 60s cartoon when I was a kid.  Like you, Jimski, Amazing is usually the very first book I read each week, and it has been a long, long time since I've read one and thought to myself, "Man, that disappointed."  When they have their gap weeks without it on the schedule, I miss it a lot--how spoiled are we?  The last "American Son" storyline was one of my favorites, and I can say I am very, very excited for #600 coming out this week.

Every time I still hear someone say they stopped reading Amazing Spider-Man because of the Mephisto thing, it makes me sad.  Because it is just so, so good now.

Best exchange:

"Weather Wizard: Supposed to rain today. :(

Captain Cold: @Weather Wizard--Consider what you just said."

I seriously had to stifle a guffaw at work at that one!

November 21, 2008 7:05 pm I've always imagined Peter Parker as an emo-music kind of guy (no relation to the hideous X3 danving moment).  I mean, Tears for Fears, maybe My Chemical Romance or Fallout Boy, maybe even some Weezer.  I mean, it would totally work with the whole "woe is me, my life never turns out well" kind of attitude.

My YA HC sits proudly on my shelf as one of my prized comic collections, along with the first Starman Omnibus.  It pretty much ranks up there in my top three series--Jim Cheung's art is amazing, and the story by Heinberg is simply incredible.  I have wanted more Young Avengers for years, and I have to second everything Ron's said here--I need more, and every month that passes without more YA arriving in my pullbox is a travesty.  And when I think about the fact that Grey's Anatomy is the reason that there's no more YA...

Grrrr!!!!

Also, I have to agree with NJBaritone--the Hulkling/Wiccan relationship is awesome, and it's really refreshing to see a young gay couple treated just so normally and matter of factly in a book like that; it's one of the reasons I like this series so much... I don't know a single iFangay who doesn't love this book for that reason as well as the multitudes of others.
