December 11, 2012 3:16 am My understanding is that they included a bunch of stuff from the Silmarilion and Tolkien's other stories and notes to pad out the total length. But I'm bummed I have to wait two years fro Bard the Bowman and the Battle of Five Armies.
December 6, 2012 1:05 pm I'm excited to learn why they are laid out the way they are. Are the one's connecting to Cap's logo like Cap's sub team? And what are the big icons on the outside for?
December 3, 2012 2:21 pm I always think it is funny when comic book fans rush to condemn shows like these for misrepresenting them, and creating problematic representations of "geek culture." Mostly because this group overlaps heavily with those who see nothing wrong with the way women or minorities are portrayed in comics, where the same kinds of essentialism and stereotyping is occurring. Many of the same people who are grumpy about the way Big Bang Theory makes all geeks look bad have no reservations about the way comics treat the female body or the treatment of women. They don't think it is a big deal when the cast of their favorite tv shows or movies lacks diversity. But, hey, make geeks look bad and suddenly it is this important issue. I'm not saying that Big Bang Theory doesn't deserve critique. just that maybe, possibly, the next time you dismiss out of hand the treatment of women or minorities in comics or "nerdom" maybe you consider how this feels, and accept how presentations of certain people can impact the lives and thoughts of people every day. That being said, my biggest issue is the education/employment one. I know a lot of folks with PhDs, and even in the sciences this level of nerdiness is uncommon. I also know lots of geeks, and most are normal guys who do normal jobs.
November 29, 2012 9:32 am This. When the author says "best since Teras Kasai" it sounds like "as long as it is not a steaming pile of doo it will be good."
November 22, 2012 3:45 pm Yes, they hate their imaginary property that makes millions of dollars. FFS, where do people come up with this hate stuff?
November 19, 2012 2:00 pm It doesn't bother me to pay 3.99, for multiple reasons. 1. If I like the comic, if I enjoy it, then 3.99 isn't too much to pay to get what I want for it. Considering that many magazines are over 5 dollars, and people just throw them away afterwards, having a 3.99 comic with a good story that I can re-sell in the future if I want to recoup part of my costs seems pretty good. Every person has to decide if the content is worth that price - and for me, 3.99 is worth it for the stories I read. 2. I buy like 35-40 comics a month. Of those, maybe 25 are Marvel titles, and probably 15 are 3.99. That means that, over the course of the month, I am paying 15 bucks more than someone who spends money only on 2.99 comics. For one, the difference between spending $120 on comics a month and $135 doesn't seem that big, and 15 bucks for the titles I like doesn't seem to bad. And 15 bucks isn't THAT much in the scheme of things. 3. Marvel's 3.99 titles all come with Digital versions for free. For me, at least, that is worth the 1.00 extra. Hell, I'd pay 3.99 for the current 2.99 titles I buy to get the digital with them, too. Having them instantly to access when I am away from my collection is great. 4. I think part of this is anti-Marvel silliness. Many of the people who claim anything more than 2.99 will break the bank pay 3.50 for the Manhattan Projects and don't complain. Many Image titles are over 2.99 and you almost never hear complaints about it. 5. While the costs have outstripped inflation, generally the art, production values, and quality of materials is much better than it used to be. So I don't mind paying a little more for that quality.
October 19, 2012 2:06 pm Just because novels are not serialized doesn't mean serialization isn't a good technique. People watch television shows, which are serialized stories, and get good stories.
October 19, 2012 2:00 pm Lowballing? You know that most of the stuff the store buys has to make a certain profit for the overhead. That is how it works. If someone doesn't want to use eBay, they have to take their risks; in this case they want the risk passed to the store.

October 10, 2012 10:59 pm It's circuitous because you can't cop to your original vacuous assertion being ridiculous. I realize that arguing over whether someone can have an opinion is idiotic. But you are the one who introduced the original asinine point that I was not supposed to do so because it was offered for free. I'm sorry you can't grasp that. I am perfectly willing to accept that there are differences of opinion. But YOU were the one contending I shouldn't have an opinion, or that I shouldn't post it because I was responding to something that was free. I offered a response using your reasoning to show how poor your logic was. I know your type though, this is going to become a "I'm not touching you" pissing contest where you try to troll me repeatedly until I quit instead of acknowledging that your original point was ridiculous; you'll keep trying to impress everyone with pedantic, condescending statements that address the way we are arguing instead of any actual point because you know your original point was foolish. Which makes you very smart and very cool. So go for it.
