December 7, 2011 11:15 am What's run with Vanilla? I love Vanilla ice cream, it's my favorite. Well, right next to Cake Batter ice cream. Good job on the review. I agree about how great Starling is. That character is a great example of a female character done correctly, not that the others are no good. Starling just rocks.
December 7, 2011 10:50 am Oh man, that was great! Aquaman likes Tim Allen in The Santa Claus, somehow it seems a perfect fit.
December 7, 2011 10:40 am Man, that blog was great. I Have a 5 year old daughter and I can totally relate. That's exactly how I was for this halloween. In a way. She went to the superhero section on her on but since I'm a big Batman fan I was trying to nodge her toward the Batgirl custome. For a while she agreed and I was all happy and proud that my daughter was going as Batgirl but later on she changed to Wonder Woman and I was ok with it but then she finally decided to go as Supergirl, I think mainly because she has blonde hair like my daughter. I didn't mind since it was a superhero character and a DC one to boot, but I was a tiny bit disappointed it wasn't Batgirl. "Parents try, with varying degrees of success, to shape our kids’ pop culture tastes." so true!
December 7, 2011 10:30 am I think since I exposed my 5 year old daughter to comics since she was 3 she really enjoys them. She has her own short box and all with a growing collection. I read to her every night and I let her pick books or comics and for 90% of the time she picks excitedly picks comics. I love that Tiny Titans exists, she loves that comic and I do as well. It does a great job with "grown up" jokes, example after Flashpoint: robin asks Cyborg what he is doing with his boots and Cyborg responds, "oh, I just need a Re-boot!" And that comic has been the gateway to other all ages comics. I also take her to my comic shop almost every Wednesday and she picks out an issue or two she wants. It's great to see her find the new Tiny Titans with enthusiasm. I think reading to your kids before bedtime, books or comics, and having a good time while doing it can really influence them continue reading later in life.
December 6, 2011 2:29 pm From looking at the first few pages I'll say he would do great in Demon Knights. I think he would feel in well for Diogenes Neves, if he leaves (or when).
December 6, 2011 11:01 am Splinter is awesome. You can't really have TMNT without Splinter.
November 28, 2011 12:23 pm I experienced the fallout of a couple of stores in my small town of California City during the '90s. I was in my early teens when that happened but it never occured to me that it was mainly the comics industry going south. I thought it was mostly my small town couldn't support the comics/trading card/arcade games store. At one point there was two seperate comic shops that rose and fell within the same office space. I was sad that I didn't have a store near by anymore and would have to bug my mom to drive almost an hour away to get my comics. Then another store popped up and all was right in the world, but I couldn't help but think, how long will this one last? It didn't last long and as far as I know, since I moved out many many years ago, there hasn't been another there since. This store came to be and not to be within an 8 year span. I hope the industry has learned from the past but like you mentioned with all this multi-cover (I've noticed Dynamite doing this a lot, especially on the Kirby: Genesis comics)and polly bagged issues it seems that maybe they haven't.
November 21, 2011 5:48 pm I picked up The Unwritten from the combinations of the awesome covers and recommendations and great reviews I had been reading. The book is outstanding. The Unwritten needs more love.
September 10, 2011 2:06 pm As we have been naming good stores, I would like to name the one I go to: BIG PLANET COMICS. There are 4 scattered throughout the DC area which includes Maryland and Virginia. They are not the only comics store but after moving here and trying all of them out I felt more welcomed at the Big Planet Comics stores. They are friendly and you can tell everyone that works there is an avid comics fan and would chat with you at length about comics and whatever else. They are kid friendly and will go out of their way to find an issue for you by either calling their other stores or just ordering them for you. I went to a comics store were they had signs plastered throughout the comics racks that stated something to the effect of: This isn't a library. If you want it buy it, don't just read it. This signs were much more professional though. I kind of understand but at the same time there might be some comics which I am iffy about which I like to flip through them and check out the contents. I don't read it, I just scan through it to see if it catches my attention. But with those signs up I felt really uncomfortable doing that and to me that is a great part of the LCS experience.
September 8, 2011 9:42 pm Molly, Speakin of Loki. I was at OTAKON 2011 and I ran into her. I took a picture of her but I can't download it on this comment. :( How could I share this picture?
