Quirky, fun characters, intruigue, great story telling, cool art...overall, it's a great bool.
Maybe I'm to hung up on continuity. Maybe I loved the old series too much to let it go. Maybe Rick Remender's idea of a good time just isn't my cup of tea. I will give you all of that. But none of that changes the fact that the characters' motivations in this series make NO sense
Now if you have no knowledge on what these characters were doing prior to this series, then you will probably enjoy it. If you were expecting a continuation of existing plot lines and character motivations, reading this series (and all of the hyperbolic enthusiasm surrounding it) might well make you want to slit your wrists as you plummet of off a sky scraper after having overdosed on sleeping pills.
Once again G.I. Joe Cobra proves to be not only the best licensed book being produced but one of (if not THE) best comic books on the stands.
Cobra Commander's monologue on the theory of cognitive dissonance is worth the price of admission alone!
This serious has been an exciting look into what makes the human mind tick. Who would have thought that an 80's toy property could have become on of the most intellectually stimulating, intruiging and thrilling reads out there? Just a damn good comic book.
@RahUnique...if we're going old school, I'm surprised you didn't say the Busiek/Perez Avengers run.
As for the best Avengers book currently being produced....I would have to say adjectiveless Avengers by default. It has been an interesting story, but the pacing has been torturous. What Bendis dis in six issues really could have been maybe two issues back in the days.
Secret Avengers...the jury is still out on that one. Mike Deodato is a very some-timey artists.
New Avengers? Meh....
And what's the other Avengers book?
And WHAT THE HELL is up with that crappy History of The Avengers prose back up in all the books?! Is anyone even reading this? Those extra pages could have helped Bendis tell his drawn out story in fewer issues.
I guess everything Ron didn't like about the old X-Force serious (the dark visuals and overtones) was everything I LOVED about it and everything Ron loves about the new book is everything i hated about it...sigh
