January 27, 2011 7:11 pm I knew Sue Storm was going to die. It was obvious that this was going to be the choice. Put some women in the fridge and call Gail Simone.

See what I did there? Isn't that so brilliant?

If he's not back by issue 600 I'll be shocked.
January 27, 2011 6:58 pm I feel smarter by reading this.
And CBR linked to the article. Pretty cool.

Wait, this is the wrong video to debate Super Smash Brothers....
December 15, 2010 4:39 pm First off: I find it amusing that with Skybound, Kirkman is becoming more like Marvel or DC in a way (without owning the property outright).

I don't think anyone can argue that Kirkman is an exception to what normally goes on in the indie comics world. I'm personally not a big fan of his works, but he did build an audience for an extremely long time before he became really successful. Ultimately, I don't really care. If a creator does some mid list Marvel or DC book and not their own creator owned work, I simply have enough great comics that I could ever read in a lifetime.

@powerdad

I have to thank you. You literally made my day.

On religion in DC/Marvel: Thor is a god. What makes him a god? If Superman was around a thousand years ago, he would be worshiped as a god. An atheist could make the case that Thor is just a superhuman who has been worshiped.

And that mini rant at the end was supposed to be tongue in cheek. I know most of you are like YEAH RIGHT! YOUR TRYING TO GET YOUR FOOT OUT OF YOUR MOUTH. I'm to lazy to actually hate anything that much. Coincently I picked up a ton of Young Avengers stuff at the last NYCC (which seems like really long time ago) and really loved it. I applaud any attempt at the big two to introduce new characters into already established universe.

 Great episode.

Walking Dead already has a clear audience (the horror crowd). I can't say the same about Powers. I'm not sure someone who likes Law and Order is going to dig a Powers show, and I don't think random guy who saw Iron Man is going to dig a Powers show either.

I've only read a little bit of Walking Dead, but I never really care about the characters because I know they are not long for this world (outside of Rick). I actually do care about Walker and Pilgrim though. This is another problem for Powers. If you cast the wrong two people as the leads, the show is pretty much doomed. On the other hand, if a character on Walking Dead becomes unpopular with the viewing audience you can just kill them off and replace them with new characters.

I really don't care how the media portrays comic readers or geek culture. Hollywood obviously doesn't have any problem making millions of dollars of comic based franchises.

At the end of the day most people who judge an entire medium or subculture as "kids stuff" or having "no redeeming qualities" are often not smart enough to argue with anyway.

Do the Eisner's even really mean anything? I think we should detach the name (sidenote: love Eisner for the most part) associated with the award.

I take more stock in the accolades that a podcaster (or someone I know) may give an award than the Eisners. If an ifanboy member recommends something, I have a general idea of the podcasters taste in comics and can take an educated guess on whether I would like the comic as well. Why should I give a crap someones opinion on a comic being the "best" of anything if I don't know who these people on the commitee are?

Denver Dave hit it right on the money.

On another note: personally I think Brubaker is a far superior writer to Johns, but that's only because I don't read a lot of superhero comics. For me, he appeals to the type of comic fan I am. Of course its subjective. I personally refuse to read a Geoff Johns comic, but if you like him why do you need him to get acknowledged? Do you need someone to validate your opinion?

I don't get it.
