With the exception of Morrison and Quitely’s New X-Men, and Whedon and Cassaday’s Astonishing, I have NEVER looked forward to an X-men comic before. But having followed this book for four incredible issues, not only can I not wait for the final chapter, I can’t wait for Wolverine and the X-Men or the new Uncanny, either. If Marvel were looking to re-ignite interest in the ailing mutant franchise and bring on board new readers who are not longtime X-fans, then job well done, Jason Aaron! I’ll admit I picked these books up initially for the art, which has been nothing short of spectacular in every issue, but I am loving this story more than I ever could have expected!
Issue four offers us the usual Alan Davis masterclass we have come to expect any time he draws a book (can’t wait to see him and Brubaker teamed up on Cap!), and also ratchets the tension that’s been brewing between Logan and Scott to almost unbearable levels as they basically try to kill each other directly in the path of a murderous oncoming Sentinel. This is absolutely first class writing and art, and along with this week’s Daredevil serves as a timely reminder that DC aren’t the only publisher putting out interesting, top quality books right now.
Art: 5 - Excellent
