I have been enjoying this cross over a lot. The art in both X-Force and Cable has been impressive, in very different ways. Clayton Craine particularly has been hitting just the right note. His work has been dark and atmospheric but also clean when it needs to be. I feel he is maybe slipping a little in this issue ,there is some inconsistencey with the drawing of Hope and she sometimes looks too old, but with such a high standard already set its not that significant.
I initally thought bringing Stryfe in to the setup was going to be a mistake but so far he is filling the bad ass villain role very well, with some good lines and following his internal monologue for this issue was a good, simple device to make it a bit more interesting. Deadpool is very well written and a good comic relief in what is a very dark story line, he is clearly flavour of the month at Marvel but his inclusion here works and doesn't feel forced. Hopefully they will continue to push angel into darker territiory with the potentially massive throwdown between him, apocalypse and stryfe. Again he was another character I thought could go wrong in this book but Kyle and Yost worked him in well and his instability helps to add an unpredictable element to a team which seem quite commited to following Wolverine's orders On the subject of Logan, for me, this is the most natural and suited team for him. Bendis writes him well but I really feel he is not right as an avenger. His over exposure in the MU is well documented but in this book is where he fits best, doing the dirty work in X-Force is what he is all about for me. The rest of the team have a good dynamic and the interplay between X-23 and... Well pretty much everyone is very entertaining.
Overall this book has been pretty consistent from the start, well made on all levels and this issue is more of the same. There have been plenty of occasions for slip ups as I said above adding and using unpopular characters, particularly in this arc, but every development has worked well building to what should be an exciting finish.
