It’s my first review in months so I’ll admit I’m a little rusty but here it goes.

Wednesday Comics is a great idea from Mark Chiarello, the idea man behind Solo and editor of The New Frontier.  Where today, a single arc takes half a year or more to finish, Wednesday Comics has beautifully co-opted the concept of the weekly Sunday funnies and applied it to the DCU.  A month in and a third of the way through, this series has been a joy every week if only to watch the look on people’s faces as you fold it out to the site of stellar Eduard Risso Batman work the size of your torso.  Most of the story have been top-notch– Green Lantern, Metamorpho, Deadman, and the Flash especially come to mind.  The art has been suprisingly amazing from old favorites like Mike Allred and Kyle Baker to new discoveries like Joe Quinnones and Brendan Fletcher.  The stories, while maintaining the sophistication of modern comics, have brought on the style and pacing of the Silver Age that’s refreshing and endearing.  With two more months to go, DC’s brought up that exciting and well-done weekly endevour I’ve missed since 52.  I hope for more installments after this intial 12 are completed.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. After two issues I gave up on this. The cheap paper and odd size make it a pain to store and if ever there was a "wait for trade" concept, this is it.

  2. @bertkreth- I think you’re missing the point. Who cares if it doesn’t fit in a plastic mylar bag and it is on newsprint. It’s top-notch art coming out on a weekly basis with something for everybody. I’m not saying your wrong for not liking it or anything like that. It’s just such a fresh idea that has been so well executed that I find myself frustrated that people are focusing on the paper stock and how it doesn’t fit in their longbox. These are such fun little stories, just read them. That’s always been the point of comics for me.
