I think Pak can do some amazing stuff with pre-established Marvel
characters. When he creates them, like with Skaar, they seem to lack something,
but when he works on characters that have been around, like Rhodey here or
Hulk, he really brings a new dimension to them. I love the little bit of young
James going off and beating the holy hell out of kids because they were
douchebags that deserved it. It probably is my favorite bit of characterization
for him since I’ve read him.

I think the art was a little too cartoony here. I
wish Manco was still doing it, as Jefferson doesn’t have the right balance of
hero and dirt for his James. I do love that American Eagle is getting respect
as a character lately. I don’t know why it’s happening, but I’m glad it is. And
it may just be me, but he seems like the superpowered answer to Scalped. I
really do enjoy how far Rhodey is willing to take his fight. I hope he
eventually gets a normal body, as Cyborg’s plight in Titans is old there and I’d
hate to see it infect WM.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 3 - Good

Comments

  1. So this is a good series? Cause I read the SI WM tale and it was pretty good.

  2. I’ve been liking it a lot. It’s not quite as good as his Hulk or Herc runs, but it is really good for action fans
