I was sceptical about the series ‘Venom’ before I read the first issue, I’d heard good things about Rick Remender’s work, but had never read any myself. However a friend of mine told me to stay away as he wasn’t as good as he was cracked up to be. I also know that Venom has a very sketchy past when it comes to being involved in actually good comics. With that being said the premise intrigued me and some of the catches that came with wearing the Venom suit sounded like they could help provide a few interesting stories. Keeping this in mind I decided to pick up the first issue and for the most part I really enjoyed it…so onto issue two.

For me this issue was on par with issue one, no better, no worse. I quite liked the shift in settings, hopefully the series will keep doing this (after all the powers and the setup allow for quiet a few different types of story‘s to be told). Changing the setting allowed this issue to have a different feel, both issues have been all out action, but this one felt more like a super-hero comic, rather than a military one. The story was pretty basic, but it was well written and got the point across, especially when it came to showing some of the dangers of wearing the suit. We’re only at issue two and the symbiote is already starting to make its presence known.

I especially liked when the action took a break and we got an emotional scene with Peter talking to Betty about Flash, it was a nice relief and having human emotion serves to ground the series and give the readers something to connect to.

Okay, granted the story really isn’t anything special, when reading this comic your mind isn’t likely to be blown and the comic isn’t doing anything revolutionary.

I’m not sure about other peoples feelings on Tony Moore’s art, but I like it. It’s unique and gives the series its own style, his facial expressions are well done, and each character has their own look. He also draws some pretty dynamic action scenes.

Overall I did like this, a lot. In a week full of big titles this one didn’t feel weaker then any of the big names. While its probably not something that’s going to be revered years from now, for the time being it’s a good, fun superhero comics thats worth enjoying
