I've been loving second coming which has sort been the second coming of the great xmen crossover. The momentum of last issue has peaked to allow the x-characters to mourn the loss of one of their own which it should, but Fraction has single handedly sunk this storyline in my eyes. I've always had a problem with Fractions run which has had cool story ideas, but poor characterization. Most of my problems with Fractions run come to head in this story as the xmen mourn a deceased character Magma who honestly in my years of xmen lore has never spent any amount of panel time with Kurt cries Give him back. If this had been a character like Dazzler or hell his sister Rogue i would have enjoyed this little moment. But its magma who was acting like she and nightcrawler spend frequent hours shopping or going on picnics not someone who barely new him. Its like me going to school with someone for years but never really being their friend and then they die and I'm the first person to complain how close were were. In another weird moment of either bad continuity or horrible characterization, I'm thinking both, Colossus who arrived on utopia with the away team is seen in the Utopia med bay with Kitty showing no signs of caring about Kurt or the fact that his sister is missing. The issue chugs around okay up until beast decides to come to Kurt's funeral and starts chewing Scott out and interrupting the proceedings blaming him for Kurt's death. I've never really liked beast under Fractions pen because he always sounds pretentious, preachy and a little whine and for a person who has known Scott since adolescence you would think he would have more faith. Nope, Beast abandoned everything because Scott grew balls and honestly Kurt's death while tangentially can be blamed on Scott if you wanna play that angle but Kurt died saving hope on orders from Wolverine in a fight with Bastion. All in all I'm extremely disappointed on the state of Uncanny as honestly amongst the X-books it should be the best which it is far from at this point...at least in my eyes

Your review would benefit from some paragraphs.

Also, I disagree with your description of Magma’s words. (It’s "Bring him back." not "Give him back." – the context changes significantly.) You make it sound as if she had made some kind of anguished plea, but she didn’t. In fact, her delivery was flat – just right for someone asking for a miracle from the Mutant Messiah in the face of casual tragedy.

Even with a changed context it is still honestly a weird thing for the character to say considering characters who have spent more time with Kurt are just standing there. If someone like Dazzler had said it would have made more sense, she was one of the x-characters not involved in messiah complex would have none of the real blind faith alot of the others have have of hope and was close enough to Nightcrawler for it to pull on my heartstrings.

It isn’t about which character cares more about Kurt, it was meant to showcase how members of the team feel about Hope. They see her as a savior, and expect a lot out of her. Fraction used Magma as an example, but it could have easily been any other character.

I honestly thought Dazzler had said it. One big problem I had with Dodson, besides his style ill-fitting the tone and content, is that he did not do a good job differentiating the multitude of X-men. I agree this is hard, but that has got to be in the job description. The worse was when Bobby did the euglogy. I swear I only figured out Iceman was doing it was by process of elimination of blond characters. In one panel Bobby looked 50 and his age jumped around by 5-10 years with every image.
