Salvation thy name is dodson. I’m not a huge greg land fan and his art on the first four issues of fraction and brubaker’s run on uncanny really turned me off. However now we get a capable artist and it looks like the regins of the story have been turned to Matt Fraction.
This book does several things for me by playing up several parallel story lines to fit into this arc. Colossus’ story about his past in russia and his mourning for kitty, is somewhat annoying considering in manifest destiny they somewhat dealt with that subject. Doesn’t really bother me though as this is only set up for things to come and hopefully we get some resolution to this Colossus i am sad without kitty situation.
Angel and Beast’s creation of the fringe science team…i don’t know who Dr. Nemesis is and don’t really care these aren’t the plot threads that made this issue interesting for me.
The thread that made me giggle is emma’s journey into Scott’s mind. For the first time we learn how Scott is keeping X-Force and some of his other clandestine activities a secret from the White Queen and the fact that Jean Grey helped him do it makes it all more delicious. I love Scott and Emma, but i love Scott and Jean more and thus its going to be interesting when she inevitably returns to the X-Books.
But i digress, what made this thread even more delicious is Dodson’s cheesecake art of the various women Scott has apparently oogled in his career as a costume hero. Spiderwoman, Ms. Marvel, Rogue, Psylocke, Storm, Mystique and many others. But what makes it even more interesting is when multiple version of the same character start running around his head. Dodson’s art while not perfect was made for a scene like this and i’m really gonna miss him when Greg “porn face” Land takes over
