I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about having Billy Tan on art duty but to my surprise his art fits the tone of the book. I don’t know if it was Tan or colorist Dean White but there was a technique used that gave the art a “sketch” feel even though there was coloring. This was done by having what appeared to be white cross hatching lines and other light shading. It wasn’t really my cup of tea but I thought it was unique and interesting.

Another gripe you could have is that the issue was a quick read and seemed too short. The reason for this is the lack of dialog in this issue. I don’t really have a problem with it. After reading many a worded comics by writers like Bendis and Hickman, it’s nice to have a quicker read that focuses on the power of the art to tell the story.

What we have in this issue is a really good done-in-one story that serves as a nice transition between story arcs. Remender has taken a book that one would think is all about blood and guts violence and turned it into action packed emotional roller coaster that keeps you interested from start to finish each issue. Plus, he’s actually made me give a damn about Fantomex. If you want to pick up an X book and don’t know were to start, forget X-Men, forget Uncanny X-Men, and pick up Uncanny X-Force.

  1. my main problem with the lack of dialog is that it wasn’t replaced with meaningful images. Opening a letter and drinking is not a lot of story. If you compare it to the Hickman silent issues, he did more with each silent panel to move you through a story and give you info. I think thats why it works there, but not here.
