There’s no wait more worthwhile than for the super espionage assasination mutant team. It’s been like a month since the first chapter of the Dark Angel Saga hit shelves, and the only news better than the fact that the second has arrived is that for the next few issues, we’ll supposedly be treated to a new one every 2 weeks. Bring on the X-Force!

Now that there’s a few shells stored up, there has never been a better time to jump onto the shotgun that is Remender’s Uncanny X-Force. The recap page will inform you of what you’ve missed from last issue as well as the relevant info of previous arcs. I’m sure that if I were reading any other X-titles, this would stand out if only for the intrigue, self-containedness, and sheer delirious fun the creative team brings to the characters. A grim book, it still has moments of quiet humor to break up the brooding that Wolverine & co. do while planning to kill their corrupted teammate. That’s mostly what this issue consists of: planning. But there’s no exposition, and when the best laid plans encounter a kink by the end of the episode, I was dying to see what’s next. Lucky for me, and everyone else smart enough to dive in now or sooner, we’ll find out soon enough.

I miss Opena’s pencils a little but Brooks keeps the look and visual tone of the book consistent at the same time as bringing some originality of his own. Remender continues to pack in emotion gut punches without writing the moral dilemmas as overwrought. There’s nothing not to enjoy about this book, which, for one containing Deadpool and Fantomex, is a minor miracle; they’re both true to form but less annoying and more compelling than any other treatment I’ve seen. Fan of X-men or not, you should be buying this book (worth it for $4) and you’ll likely love it.
