This was the pick of the week for me so far. I am very surprised since I really only picked it up to wrap this series up but it’s helping to wash the taste of Ultimatum out of my mouth. Loeb wrote these characters into some very uncharacteristic actions. Polaski treated each of these subjects respectfully, and pulled these characters out of the fire that they were thrown into during Ultimatum.

This issue was incredibly well done! Great writing, good art, wrapped things up well yet moved the story along. Really good battle too! There’s a concept of “magic as science that hasn’t been explained yet” that was brought up in here. It’s a discussion I’ve had with friends numerous times. I like that they brought that up and used it quite nicely as a device.

The directions each of the characters go in is also very intriguing. Possible Ultimate Marvel Two-in-Ones? Everyone’s personality and emotions were well rounded and you really got a feel of their state of mind both in the writing and the art.

I’m not familiar with Joe Polaski. I’ll have to check out some of his other work now.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. Nice Review.  I wasn’t going to pick this up, but after reading your review I think I’ll give it a try.

  2. Haha, washing the taste of ultimatum out… I only wish it have washed the taste of Jean out of mine.

Erm… that didn’t come out right… erm neither did that previous sentence…

  3. Great Review!!! I thought the same thing This one issue was way better than all Ultimatum.  Pokaski does a good job of cleaning up Loeb’s mess in Ultimatum.  Loeb had all the personalities of the FF wrong and Pokaski seems to be on par.
