If you were an X-man, would you ever play at the baseball game? You know a fight is going to break out, or something big is going to happen. If Cyclops puts up the flyer for the annual baseball game, I am out of there. And do X-men(women too) play other sports? Who doesn't want to see Logan and Scott on the back nine?
I have every issue of Ult. X-Men, and I have liked most of it. Perhaps it hasn't been as good as the early part of the run. I like the show Heroes, and maybe Aron Coleite would bring something to it. I don't know. I've read this book three times, and I have to say I'm confused.
Did Peter hit Jean? I hate it when people say characters wouldn't do something, but it felt wrong for Pete to hit her. My favorite moment in the entire run is when Peter beats Magneto all the while telling him not to hurt Wolverine. And I can see that Jean deserved to smacked around, but still I doubt that it would happen.
This is just a first issue, and maybe a lot of this is to be adressed later in the story. It seems as though a major character is way out on the ledge, and I don't want to end up not liking Peter. Peter, who is now on kick with Beak from the future of Morrison's run.

I thought the art got better as the book went on, and loved the image of Colosus holding the plane on the ground. Near the end I thought Mark Brooks had gotten the look of Ultimate X-Men book down, and am looking foward to seeing his next issue.
I will be buying the next issue, if only to see it get worse or better. I would have to admit either is possible.

this issue felt like a totally different comic for me. The characters and events and personalities seemed like the 616 people with some nods here and there to events that happened in the Ultimate Universe with these folks. And how old is Logan in the Ult-verse, isn’t it a little gross to anyone else that he’s hitting on a girl that’s 15?
Hitting on Liz is inapproiate but he did more to Jean so maybe Wolverine is secretly a dirty old man plus his stint of sexual tension with Storm plus when was the last he got laid? Liz is in X-men I’m so glad that crossed over. Look we’ve had a lame duck writer and this was a breathe of fresh air with a bumpy transition. Oh and if I was a superhero I’d go to every party/event so I could punch things….baseball sucks.

Heh, heh. I can actually really see, like, Scott and Emma and Warren golfing. And then somehow Logan gets called in to complete the foursome. Hijinks ensue.
It’s probably a bad sign that I’m more interested in this conversation than in what may or may not be happening in this comic.
I definitely enjoy the X-teams playing baseball, but it’s the one thing that really only Claremont should do. Especially since it’s the only thing he does well anymore.
Can we just forget this issue ever happened?
@actual — I’m still crying from the Free Comic book Day issue where Greg Land drew Pixie playing baseball in a leotard. With NO PANTS ON. Does Land have any concept of how baseball is played???
