Let's start off by saying that the last time I read an X-Men title it was the 90s and I was in grade school. I had a vague memory that Executioner's Song was one of the greatest story lines conceived by man. I have since reread about half of it because it was so painful.
Now this is not the reason why I have not read X-Men for so long, no it was because of Grant Morrison. I am not a fan of his work, I feel that he is the Stephen King of comic books. Starts a story really well but can't finish them at all. His leather clad metro team left a bad taste in my mouth and I have sworn off X-Men ever since.
Until now that is. I picked this issue up on a whim because I saw one of my favorite villians on the cover, Apocalypse. After reading this issue and seeing it was part 2 of 4 I immediately went back and got issue 90 (which I have yet to read). Kirkman's story for this issue was solid. I had not read issue 90 but had a good understanding of what was going on. I also thought that it was a neat fun read overall and actually had me thinking of how weird it was to read X-Men again in any form. I thought Wolverine read like how he should have and Apocalypse was as he should be as well. *spoiler* I was really intrigued by the fact that he turned out to be Sinestro and that they killed off Angel, which shows that as Ron says, Shit happens in this book.
The art I found to be the best part of this book. I thought mostly because of the coloring. I love when coloring is in dark hues such as what was used in this book. I wasn't a fan of how Wolverine looked but Apocalypse looked amazing and that's all I really cared about.
Overall I plan on picking up at least this story arc to give X-Men a try out again.
