Should you care about this title? Not yet anyways.

A story that described the origin of the Ultimate Universe totally interests me. I love most of the Ultimate titles and the idea that there is something tying it all together is really cool. However, that idea has nothing to do with this first issue. This first issue appears to have nothing to do with anything at all. It’s suffering from a case of first issue-itis and it’s running a temperature of 102.

I feel like there is an interesting story somewhere in here. Wherever it is it isn’t in this first issue and is most definitely not worth the $2.99. If you didn’t buy it just wait for the second issue.

Guice art is fine. In static scenes of people standing I would say it looks good. The problem is the action. There were a couple times in this book when I was confused as to what was going on and what I was supposed to be seeing. In comics if you don’t have artwork that displays the action and story clearly the style is a waste. I was almost shocked to see this as the problem on such a high profile book with Bendis’ name attached.

In a week with some really exciting books with great endings this one left me sleepy. Skip it.

  1. I liked the issue … but I agree with you that some of the artwork wasn’t very clear during action scenes & it was kinda tough to know exactly what was going on.

  2. I enjoyed this issu too and I disagree with your score mainly because i think the story was really great in establishing the whole universe.

With this issue you had the origins of Nick Fury, Wolverine and kingpin and how it is all connected with the main ultimate books (spider-man, x-men and the ultimates)and i understand your concern about the art it could have been better but it was still a really good 1st issue to me.

  3. For me personally I feel like this issue should’ve been more.  It didn’t have any crackle and with a first issue of something like this I want something more.  It’s like Final Crisis without the last page to make me want more.
