This has been a great way to experience an origin telling of Spiderman. You could rewrite Peter Parker’s tale as many times as you want, but in the end you’ll just end up going down a path well worn. In a setting where the role of Spiderman is well established, there suddenly isn’t one. Nor does anyone want there to be. Not out of an inability in Miles, but out of respect for the hero that Parker’s Spiderman was. Every time a character tells Miles that his wearing of the red and blue suit is in poor taste, it’s a reminder that he’s going to have to go about this in a completely different manner, and that Bendis himself is very aware of our respect for the character.
I really have enjoyed the development of Miles. The extra time spent out of the costume is necessary be that he’s the greatest variable in all that’s taking place. Better knowing his character makes the last page of this issue that much more rewarding.
