This is the issue you've all been waiting for: the one where Miles goes into action, for real, the one that really brings him into the superhero sphere, the one that produces, finally, that blasted red and black costume that's been on all the covers so far. It's good - it's cool, and I hope we see more like this, soon. Miles needs to fight some supervillains or something (well, more supervillains). But after dozens of issues of Ultimate Spidey, I'm realizing that Bendis's scripting habits are finally really starting to wear on me. In some of his comics - say, POWERS - I feel like it works. It has a certain conversational cadence, which I'm sure is the goal. Occasionally his Marvel stuff does too. But with USM, it seems like it's just gone a little wild. The repetition, the pauses, the stutters - seriously, who talks like this? Maybe one person. Not the entire cast. The implications are thrilling. But I sure wouldn't mind if Bendis would stop writing QUITE so much like...well, like Bendis.
