So we’ve come to the penUltimate (see what I did there) issue of Mark Millar’s “Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates” and I think the best way to describe it is forgettable. I picked up this series because I’m a big fan of Leinel Yu’s art and of Ultimates 1 and 2, but mostly because of the “Death of Spider-Man” banner. But at this point this is a universe without a solid direction. The first two Ultimates series are a time capsule of a 9-11 era society and ever since Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum this team of gritty re-booted heroes just don’t have the same clout they did nearly a decade ago. There’s nothing wrong with this mini-series and the art is certainly wonderful to look at, but as far as the story goes there’s just nothing stand out. I’m giving the story here a 2 out of 5 because this book was as middle of the road average as a comic can be. A summer popcorn flick that leaves your head fifteen minutes after seeing it.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 4 - Very Good
