In my review of issue #5 I wrote: “I don’t even know where to begin speculating when it comes to Trinity. I haven’t been offered anything with which to tie together shared dreams, a big purple monster, tarot cards, Morgan Lefay and Gangbuster.”

and then i realized –

It’s the Trinity that ties it together, FACE.

Dumbass..

I guess I was just confused by where the story was going. Because, early on, it didn’t feel like it was going anywhere. It just felt like a tremendous waste of time. I knew it wouldn’t stay that way, but anxiety was getting the better of me. I just wasn’t sure if I could endure the ride as the story found its legs.

Well, four issues later and Trinity is beginning to pay off. The story’s gained ground since issue #5, with plots being built throughout the DCU. It seems the Multiverse is once again hanging in the balance and the best part is – it won’t be restrained by continuity.

I doubt Busiek will have the bad guys come out on top when it’s all said and done, but I know they’ll be in charge for a while. And as we watch the Trinity overcome this particular crisis we will learn something about them and what brings them together.

There was a lot of trepidation about the back story featured in Trinity and how it was going to play out in this, whether it would actually be relevant or not. I feel confident in saying we can stop worrying about it because the back story’s been just as good as the front. Its all become relevant at this point and I just love seeing so many characters from the DCU making appearances.

I personally love Mark Bagley. His art doesn’t take itself too seriously. He doesn’t have to be compared to others because he’s obviously not trying to blow your doors off. He just does what comes naturally to him. I wish I had half of his natural ability. And kudos to DC for keeping their coloring bold. I can’t stand all the drab coloring that’s infected Marvel these days.

Trinity may never make pick of the week around here. It’s too stigmatized by former weeklies, but it ought to be respected for the endeavor it is. There’s a lot of work that’s been put into this and the coordination between the writers and artists involved is no small task. Carry on DC!
