TORCH #3 (OF 8)

I’m really surprised so few people pulled this book.  This is my first real exposure to
The Human Torch in any way, shape or form,  and I’ve been
absolutely loving this story so far.   All the way through the art
has been just fantastic and I love the way everything is unfolding slowly through the eyes of The Human Torch’s not-so-teenage former sidekick, Tom Raymond, and watching how seamlessly Tom slides back into that sidekick role to rescue his old friend from The Thinker.  I love watching the Thinker use and outsmart the other lesser evil villains at A.I.M that hired him and thought they could control him. And most especially I felt deeply satisfied by the conclusion of this story – which I won’t reveal. As a reborn story goes, I’m enjoying this a heck of a lot more than Captain America so far, and probably more than The Flash, so far, too.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Nicely reviewed. I like this series quite a bit as well, although I thought the current issue of Cap Reborn brought it to a whole new level.

  2. I’m waiting for trade on this; I’ve heard mixed things early on. But lately I’ve seen good reviews for this particular issue.

    Great review by the way.

  3. I agree completely. I don’t know why, because I did not have high expectations for this, but I LOVED it.

  4. coltrane68 – you’re absolutely right about the new issue of cap reborn.  I had written this before I had gotten that far into my stack and that really was a much more compelling issue than I had read in the run up to that point. The odd thing though is how much parallel these two stories have in how they are developing – evil do-ers resurecting dead heroes to control and use as weapons in their evil plans. It’s not a new trope, but it’s weird to read it twice in the same week.

  5. The only reason Cap Reborn was my Pick over this was that I knew how this issue was going to end and Cap Reborn actually surprised me (I’m also pretty sure I know what the speciic connection between Torch and Toro is going to be). That said, I really enjoyed this issue and I’ve been enjoying this series overall quite a bit. The original Human Torch is one of my favorite Marvel characters.

The best part is that this series justfies my purchase of Avengers/Invaders. 🙂
