This is about as good a jumping on point for the Thunderbolts as you're going to get. Unfortunately, this issue suffers from something outside of itself thanks to a poorly-timed release. This issue takes place after Secret Invasion, and seems to have more to do with Dark Reign and the Dark Avengers. I suppose that latter bit is just speculation on my part, but after seeing the solicit of Dark Avengers, I can't help but notice who they sort of look like, who's missing from the picture, and who happens to get "bumped off" in this issue. And, of course, there's no small matter in further spoiling the worst-kept-secret of the year, the ending of Secret Invasion. Here we learn that the Skrulls were repelled in a way that makes Tony Stark look very bad, Norman and the Thunderbolts look really good, and proves that SI was just an event to lead to another event. Yay. All of that, however, should not be taken out on this book... though I can't help but think I would have enjoyed this better if read on a week after Secret Invasion concludes. Just the same, the Thunderbolts are just as much treacherous fun as always.
