Fantastic! If you don’t pull this book, you should. If it’s because you are short on cash these days or just have no interest in Thor or his Asgardian brethren, I can almost forgive that. If, however, you refuse to pull this book because of the writer and what he’s done in the past, then you need to get over yourself and stop being a pompous turd. Between Thor and The Twelve, JMS has not only woven some of the best comic stories on the shelves right now, but he’s also put out some of the best books I’ve ever read. Period.

Thor #12 features Loki at her finest. In these pages Loki shows her hand, and reveals her origin, as she moves the final pieces of her plan to oust her brother from the throne into place. Questions are answered, and the Trickster has never been so accurately portrayed. JMS’ use of dialogue in these pages proves that he not only has a handle on Loki as a character, but has mastered the liar to a science.

As if this wasn’t enough to peak your interest, Coipel’s artwork is not only stunning as always, but with Loki and Hela he has proven that he is the master of cleavage. The visuals here, whether it’s a picturesque backdrop of a snow covered mountain, a sneering expression on a character’s face as he spews out resentful dialogue, or the fluid rendering of a battle sequence, his work is not only breathtaking but also pulls you into and makes you feel a part of what’s happening. I would gladly frame any page of this book and hang it in my home.

I dare anyone to pick up this issue and not enjoy it, as this is the comic medium at it’s finest. I have no doubt that this run of Thor will be counted as one of the best in comics for many years to come.

  1. wow. you really loved that issue. Now i’ll have to buy the darn trade to catch up, after this sweet review.

  2. I’ve enjoyed the run quite a bit, but this issue really blew me away. I’m tempted to tell you to read this, then get the trade, because then you can see and aprreciate all the little hints and things leading up to the reveals in this issue. Though it would be foolish to think Loki really did turn over a new leaf, JMS’ portrayal of her honestly kept me guessing through out the run, and that’s the way it should be. If you can guess what Loki’s motivations are, or his/her plans might be, then the character is being handled poorly. As odd as this might sound, this issue was a welcomed brick to the face as far as wake up calls go.
