Being a big fan of Kirkman’s work on Invincible and The Walking Dead, I wasn’t sure how to feel about a book of his that didn’t involve time travel, superpowered aliens, or zombies at first. Walking into my LCS yesterday, I still wasn’t sure if I was going to pick this up, but I’m glad I did.

One subgenre I’m totally in love with is capers. I love all that kind of stuff, but I’d never really read a caper worth noting in comics. Let me tell you, this is a great caper. Kirkman writes his protagonist knowledgeably, and gives us a little insight into the history of his character without drawing the curtain too far back on him. His protege is also a great foil to Conrad’s collected facade.

The art is the only thing that didn’t really hook me. The color pallette is decidedly cool, as it should be, but it doesn’t catch my attention or really draw my eye.

If you were undecided about this book, I encourage you to take a chance.

  1. I was set to buy this, but after looking through it in the comic shop I decided against it, given that the art didn’t grab me either, which is a shame, cause I could have used a heist tale in my comics rotation. If it’s ever in the library, though, I’ll check it out.
