A different vampire/zombie comic is often still a vampire/zombie comic. Merely moving it to another era doesn’t alter what the comic is. If you were searching for an undead comic that was set in post-Victorian England that was more CSI than The Walking Dead, well, you’ve found it.

I’m a fan of Abnett’s work, and it’s a testament to his writing that I didn’t put this down halfway through. Colbart’s art is a perfect match for Abnett’s dialog. The man draws a great retro scowl.

In the end, though, this is another vampire comic. Another zombie comic. It takes a lot more than Abnett offers here to invest me in this type of story.

Unless it comes out on a particularly slow week, I am unlikely to pick up the next issue.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. Well said. I think the glowing responses this is getting are from fans of the people involved more than the actual comic we have here. For me it just isn’t worth it for what it is.

    • This is not a critique of this, or any other specific site, but I think a lot of comic book websites become so involved with the creators and industry people that they become more excited for a new book than your average reader would. That’s not a bad thing. But often it leads to some heavy hype for books that, when they come out, turn out to be average or just slightly above average. I think that was the case for the way a few sites promoed this.
