Okay — so, I want this story to be as good as it can be. But here’s the problem. It’s still in issue #1 mode.

What is issue #1 mode, you ask? It’s that ethereal introductory format that’s laying groundwork. It’s great, for awhile. But it needs to detonate at some point.

Remember where/when we are, here. We’re in a post-apocalyptic world. We all want to know what kind of fallout has happened. We’re getting little pitters and patters of what this fallout is, but as a reader, I still don’t know — after two arcs, now — whether this is going to be science fiction fallout, political thriller fallout, environmental fallout, or some other form of anthropological or mystical fallout.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the anticipation — and all the back-story info at the end of each issue that explains more about the characters and the situation. At some point, though, this book will be defined by where it chooses to go or whether it chooses to go anywhere.

The story — to me — hasn’t started yet. Until it does, I’m giving it tentative 4/5’s and 3/5’s. Those numbers will slip to 3/5’s and even 2/5’s if something definitive doesn’t happen soon.

Plus, the notion that these guys have *seem* to have chosen to be pacifists takes away another exciting notion: fighting and killing. I need to see some kind of conflict pretty soon that resolves this issue.

Maybe next arc?

  1. I’m interested to see what you think of this when you catch up. I really liked this issue though, and remember some shooting and jacking going on. This was actually a pretty exciting issue. Also, for me, the ‘what happened’ isn’t as important as the “how are people dealing with it.” The next arc is very good.

    • I agree this issue when it came out was my favourite of the series so far, but with the recent arc has put even more questions & loopholes in a series that still hasn’t really expanded yet. So wait & see you’ve got three excellent issues coming that’ll really make you ask more questions about the main cast & where/which direction this series will take them!
