I picked up #8 and #9 because Gorilla Grodd is an interesting character and I wanted to see how he was handled in the new DCU.

I liked this issue and recommend it as a BUY….BUT, I think they missed a HUGE opportunity to spend some time inside Grodd’s “universe. There was so much potential to dig into the politics and culture of Grodd’s world, but instead we got a compressed cliff notes.

Don’t get me wrong, the art was fantastic and the compressed story didn’t feel skimpy—I just wanted MORE.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. I agree. Grodds culture in relation to the “Light” could have been an easy 4 issue series. I really like this book, for a lot of reasons, but the past few issues seem condensed and rushed. Feels like we were just introduced to Captain Cold, then Turbine all of a sudden (I’m sure we’ll see him again since he just vanished), and then Grodd came and went. I liked the pacing of the first arc much better, and while I really like how the book doesn’t feel like parts of a trade every month, I want to get to know the “villains” more. By the way, in case you didn’t know, we first see Grodds world in #7.
