The Flash has always been one of my favorite DC characters. Since I was a kid, I liked his costume and that he was built for speed. Never, though, have I ever read a story about the Flash that I liked. Never. I bought the first 15 issues of the (back then) new Flash series in the 80’s and several from time to time in his original series. With his second series, I tried to get through the hum-drum of the first 4 or 5 set-up issues and learn enough about the world of Flash, hoping things would get rolling. I invested time and again in this character hoping to get him in there as one of my roster regulars.

I remember Butch Guice was the artist that kicked off Flash’s the first run of issues in 1987 (after his spectacular work in XFactor). I really liked him.

Between him and the artist that came after him, and the 3 or 4 iterations of this character since, I’ve never been able to get past how boring he and his narration has been.

Flashpoint was an utter, utter disappointment to me. The speedforce has turned into a silly idea because it never got conceptualized properly.

Same here in this series. I really like (like, not love) Manapul’s artistic rendition of the character. But the writing’s just boring as Hell…

Who cares about this Flash? All this power and he’s mired in a plain, useless world of existence. His girlfriend’s an idiot, too — a pale facsimile of Lois Lane…

We need to throw him in space or banish him to another reality or something. Something to give this guy a real purpose in the world of heroes.

He’s boring and this series is an utter disappointment on a scale no different than the utter disappointment he was in 2010, 1987, and in the series before that. I’d bet money Marvel would never let a character with this potential get away from its audience. I bet he’d be in a movie by now…

Sad.
