One thing I love about this book is Jeff seems to draw reguler looking people, no one is knockout beautiful. Another thing is the two leading characters, Gus and My Jepperd. One just gushes innocence and niavity and the other has an intensity thats terrorfying. There is real heart to this book and also an incredibly creepy atmosphere. People say this book is light and its light in words, but Jeff uses his fantastic artistic abilities to use setting and facial expression to such effect that the book doesn’t need to be word heavy. The ending is a perfect example, its all in the eyes.

Whilst we might know better we just see this world as Gus is introduced and I’m certain when Gus loses his innocence and his heart is broken mine will be broken along with it.

Story: 5 - Excellent

  1. that’s a good point about the art. But i think the thing with Lemire or any other stylised cartoonist is that the reader projects their ideas onto the collection of lines on the paper
