I’m at the point now where I love Lemire, but I might even prefer his art over his writing.

I mean, I think his art in Sweet Tooth is truly underrated. All scraggly, emotive, totally unique in it’s styling. The colors in the comic (and I’ve seen people slag them) are probably my favorite colors in any comic not called S.H.I.E.L.D. This issue just established once again that his art and the way that it connects to the words on the page is basically some of the best stuff out there right now.

And holy shit, this issue is a doozy.

This book gets praise from anyone who means anything and it deserves it. But the last couple of issues have left me a little cold and indifferent compared to the earlier issues. This one though, taking things in a new direction, one that probably no one expected is just a killer. The best in awhile. The narration is amazing, the panel shots of the characters that go along with it are chilling, the silent dream sequence will be considered by many to be among the best series of pages all year.

It’s just a fantastic book and while I’m happy Lemire is writing for the big time now – I truly wish he could find time to illustrate every book he was writing as well. When the product is his and his alone, he’s about as good as we get.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent
