So I’ll be entirely honest and say that I just wasn’t digging this issue of SWAMP THING, relatively speaking.

Maybe it’s just that relatively little happens. I mean, hypothetically a very BIG thing happens (or two?), but in many ways I feel that this is too much too soon – that Snyder’s jumping the gun on some of the big losses here. I just don’t feel for these characters yet – not as much as I need to. Like in BATMAN, he’s doing solid work with existing stuff and putting himself in it, and well; but everybody has a basis for how significant it is that the Court of Owls might bring down Bruce Wayne. Few people (myself included) have a heck of a lot of experience with Alec Holland prior to this series. I feel like maybe I need that background, though.

Meanwhile, Rudy’s art lives just a little to be desired. Not, like, a lot. But a little. I think this is mostly just that he’s not QUITE Yanick Paquette, but this is still a better looking book on the inside than most other things you’ll pull off the rack. It’s a problem not of skill, but of style, and Rudy is unfortunately working in the shadow of Paquette’s outstanding start.

So. SWAMP THING #6. It’s good for me, but maybe it’ll be better for you?

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good
