Ok, so I read the previous 18 issues of Swamp Thing purely for Scott Snyder but Charles Soule was nice enough to reply to my tweets about the book so I gave it a read through.

Swamp Thing is now more focused and committed to being the Avatar of the Green (finally)which leads to him having to choose between helping people or plants; does it save human lives or keep the natural balance of the Green? This is an interesting angle to use and I’d like to see more of it. However, in his downtime he hangs out in Botanical Gardens. To get more in touch with his human self, he spends more time with plants… Bit of incongurity I thought.

I haven’t read Soule’s previous work, but this is missing the horror feeling that was a part of Snyder’s run. That said, this isn’t a bad first issue. I’m assuming this is Soule’s first DC issue, in which case he hit the ground running. Unfortunely, it just didn’t impress me enough to buy it. It did make me want to read the next issue tho to see if it improves, and I hope it does. Soule’s got the concept down, and some interesting angles to play up, it just needs that extra something to make it great.
