I read this after reading irredeemable. Not a very sound judgement if i may say. Superman is the classic superhero icon that everyone recognizes but not so much enjoy anymore in the world of comics. There have been many wonderful man of steel stories and myriads of average ones for the modern comic book audience. This falls on the later. Dan Jurgens is certainly a recognizable name on the superman scene and its refreshing to see his art in the modern era. The story telling is still good but not going to rejuvinate the superman trope anytime soon. The mystery on the two interweaving plots in this book is done good enough but not something to write your dad about.

If there’s something worth noting is the way superman is portrayed here. Not all powerful and not all knowing (well he’s really not these but some writers tend to go that route) Dealing with real world “secrecy” and some on-the-spot superhero perflexity is a modest challenge to big blue here.

Still just your average supes story for me.

  1. I’ve always felt like Dan Jurgens is the most average comics writer of all time.
