Well.. I picked this up due to the promised cameo of Wonder Woman and I was not disappointed. This was my dive into "Grounded" and feared the worst, but was pleasantly surprised.
This story has some great elements and I loved the fact that I picked this issue up and was not lost at all. It seemed like a very self contained story although it is apart of a much larger arc. It was very refreshing. I liked the introduction of the Superman of all times because it reminded me of Hickman's run on Fantastic Four and his League of Reeds. Not everything has to be original, but it helps when it is done well. Overall, this issue just seemed to have some classic elements to it. The superhero's dilemma, save the few or the many? And some of the internal dialogue the big S has are questions every major hero has to ask themselves at some point.
The art - Not too much to say. Although, the Superman on the cover is perhaps one of the worst I have ever seen. Who thought that looked good? Superman looked tougher lying in a coffin than that rendition. Sorry, I get he is "reconnecting with humanity" but that went a little too far. Also, the final panel, the mysterious woman kinda looks like she stepped out of Preacher and I dig it.
The big question if it is enough to draw me back into the series?
