Obvious political-socio-economic undertones in this issue, and an interesting philosophical question of whether Superman has the right to enforce political or sociologic matters on which he feels he has an ethical opinion.  The aliens are obviously an analogy to the current immigration law controversy occurring in Arizona right now, and I suppose JMS conveys his own thoughts on the subject; and the defunct Detroit factories being resurrected an obvious analogy to the bailout of the motor industry by our present government.  I think JMS presents current issues cleverly within this Superman comic book, in addition to the issue of Superman as a socio-political character himself, a thought-provoking subject in itself, as clearly according to this book Superman has some political pull within the medical industry in the DCU.
