I may have to read Super Girl because I am so in love with Rucka, Robinson and the rest of the crew working the Superman books right now. I have never really liked Superman as an idea until Johns worked him over a bit. I always thought he was this big supremely powerful character who was written with no depth and lived in a very world of a 1950’s WASP’s wet dream. But the big three books in the “New Krypton”/”World Without Superman” arc have really sucked me deep into Superman’s little slice of the DC Universe.

There is so much world building going on in these three books but most surprisingly in this “Superman” issue without any superman. The Science Police make sense to me now, Guardian is not a lame 70’s throwaway here but a very cool mentor character, and even , Metropolis looks like an interesting place with some real character to me. Robinson has made the character Mon-El, very intriguing and sad and yes kind of sappy but I am loving every panel of it. The art is sharp and has a very widescreen feel that helps to draw you even deeper into this world. I spent a full 2 minutes pouring over the for the two page 16 panel breathtaking, no pun intended, drowning scene at the start of the book. This is everything the Batman books should be right now.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
