I need to preface this by stating that I was never a Supergirl fan prior to this run (except for the movie…which was so awful it was wonderful!) This series, however, has been fantastic from issue one. The writing does a great job of exploring the fears of being alone in a strange new place and the wonders of discovery at the same time. The reboots of the other super titles skipped this chapter with the boys. There is anger, but with reason, it comes from her failure to communicate and the inability of the public to not see her as threatening. (Social commentary on the current conditions in our own country? I think so!). The villains so far have been interesting and a bit non formulaic which is the breath of fresh air the New 52 was supposed to bring about. I will admit that the majority of the New 52 have not been meeting, let alone exceeding my expectations, but Kara has stolen my heart. I enjoyed the feel of classic superhero title artwork that Perez brought to the table, but not quite as much as the previous 7 issues worth of art so the art only gets a four. The story however gets a 5, and hopefully will stay there for many issues to come! From the top of my pile…and hopefully into yours…give Kara a chance and try Supergirl if you haven’t yet.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. Glad someone likes this book in the same way I do. 🙂

Me, too. And this title has exceeded my expectations from issue 1.
