I was really surprised at how much I liked this book. I went in with no expectations at all, supergirl was pretty much a blank page to me.
One of my favorite Superman stories is an Elseworlds called Red Son. It basically asks what woul have happend if Superman had landed in The Soviet Union instead of Kansas. This story feels like a sucessor to that for me.
When her ship/ meteor hits earth, It hits Kansas. And it keeps going, punching through the earth’s core and finally stopping in Siberia. Is Siberia on the opposite sire of the globe from Kansas? I’m not sure, and I didn’t care one bit, they had suspended my disbelief enough. I was drawn in.
I loved how they basically have it as her in a waking nightmare. Nothing seems real because it’s snowing and she isn’t cold. No one speaks a language she understands. my personal favorite moment is her screaming in horror that “somethings wrong! something is wrong with the Sun!” when she sees the Yellow Sun. I also really enjoyed her super hearing picking up bits of dialogue from other DC books, and her thinking she is going crazy hearing voices.
All in all, we have her in a nightmare horror movie. Add we are her nightmare. We are the horror movie. Well done.
I even like their explanation for her impractical super heroine costume.
I loved this.
