This issue is all set up, and even then, I can conceive of anything presented in issue 1 that a reader won’t be able to glean from subsequent issues in this series.

If it weren’t for Bendis’ ability to write Spider-Man as a character, this would be a two-star issue. But Spidey’s internal dialogue at the pen of Bendis as at its best here, so my story rating gets a bump up.

I dug Sarah Pichelli’s art. I’m not an Ultimates Universe guy, so this was my first encounter with her work. It’s grade-A stuff.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. I’d agree on all points really. I would go so far as to say that if someone doesn’t like Bendis-speak or his take on Spidey then this isn’t the issue for them, because you get a lot of both and that’s about it. I’d also say to those who have seen Pichelli’s work in USM, she is on top form here.

  2. I like the door this opens to other series crossing over. This is going to get interesting. This is my pick of the week!! (Ignoring the fact that its the only one I read this week) LOL

    • This is one of those books where I’d totally get someone giving it a four-star rating or a two-star rating. It definitely sets up a story that has potential to be lots of fun, and as I said, I think Bendis writes Spidey.

I’m with you in hoping this series is as fun as it ought to be!
