I give this story a 4 (rounded up from a 3.5).
This comic is a big Wow and deserves recognition. All due applause needs to be given to Marvel for their commitment and delivery with their many year Avenger's storyline. This issue is almost a perfect landing, but two things kept me from totally jumping out of my seat.
The not so good:
1. The narration from the President and his general.
Reading this narration reminds me a lot of the final battle in the film Spider Man 3. From what I remember the final battle in Spider Man 3 is narrated by nightly news broadcasters who are watching the events unfold and commenting (narrating). The President and his general do the same thing in this issue. The narration is occurring at the same time as we (the viewing/reading audience) are also experiencing the story. Having the narrator watch TV and describe the same story we are reading is weak. Kind of like the power-point presenter who reads his slides verbatim. The narration did help the storyline along a little, but there are better ways to deliver the same plot developments.
2. Similarly Cap's entourage making comments about how awesome this whole fight is really took me out of the story. This is the SIEGE; the culmination of Marvel's epic. A big violent battle where gods are torn in half and anyone can die. Really bad people (like Bullseye) were worried about such a confrontation. So now why are people swooping in and describing how "cool" it is? The spread of the calvary arriving IS really cool ... there is no need for a character to state the obvious. I suppose the heroes could all just feel happy about being back and punching baddies - however these comments really move away from the previous established levity.
The awesome:
Then again we are brought right back into the seriousness (with a great Spidey moment) with three very strong developments that leave lasting impressions.
1. The Osbourne reveal. What an interesting character he has become. Especially him yelling at the end that HE was saving everyone. Wow this is really a fully formed villain that makes you think. Every storyline with this character is just twisted. (The toldya gag was worth it too)
2. The grandness of bringing down the entirety of Asgard with Thor standing helpless. What destruction! Hopefully it is not glanced over in the last issue and not used as a plot device to clear the battlefield of all the other villains.
3. The Sentry's final turn. I think the whole transformation was timed really well (some might say too long, but I think it was proper to establish his threat level [unlike that scary monitor at the end of Final Crisis]). If you think about the final form the Void has taken... it is the MOST evil looking thing. Reminds me of a parasite like a tick. It does not get much more evil than a parasite.
So I am ready for issue four. Hopefully its not wrapped up too conveniently. Regarding the art: I give it a 5 and let the work speak for itself.

I’m a newb. Do I have to use html to get paragraph breaks?
Any predictions for how the sentry is defeated? will it be whoever norman osborns secret was?
In Dark Avengers I thought it was reveled the Sentry was his secret weapon. I’m not sure where Loki has been so I’d imagine he will have a large role in the final confrontation.
