Siege #2 continues to exemplify what an event should be.
Concise, fast paced, and filled with consequential actions. Bendis has done an
admirable job of tying together plots from the past few years to put a worthy
ending to a very creative era in Marvel Comics history. In the past I haven’t
had much patience with Bendis’ previous efforts in large events, but have
always found them fun to reread. The last event, Secret Invasion, was
especially cluttered with dialogue, and any sign of epic struggle and heroic
effort was lost in a quagmire of dialog in the Savage Land. Initially I was
afraid of the following when I first got wind of “Siege”:

It would be painfully drawn out like Zulu, or Two Towers

Gods would not be represented as immortal powers that walk
the earth

Everything in Siege would be easily undone in six issues of
Avengers, so no real risk would be taken.

I was wrong. You win Brian. This event has been a blast.
Without spoiling plot-points I will say that there ARE consequences. There are
ore than one instances of characters getting their “Due”. There are about 4
fist-pumping scenes. And the feeling of anticipation for the next issue is
still present. If you want to see what happens in the book, do yourself a
favor, and spend $3.99. Coiple’s art alone is worth the price of admission.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. i didn’t know Coipel was doing this. i love him. in some ways he’s marvel’s best artist. alllllllllmost makes me wish i was reading this. almost.

  2. FACE, so cynical. So cynical.

  3. "Without spoiling plot-points I will say that there ARE consequences."

    LOL

  4. Well I posted this when much of the Pcific time-zone was headed to the comic shops, and didn;t really want to post any spoilers. That and I don’t like to recap everything in an issue and call it a review. That’s a summary. Sure, going over the plot points of a review is paramount to giving a good review, but there’s no need to summarise the book and call it a review.

Anyways, I thought it was a solid issue, and glad to see if a POTW.
