I don’t know much about Marvel, aside from what I’ve seen in  movies.

But I was interested in the story premise, so I thought I’d give it a go. So perspective is that of a relatively new reader to this universe.

Boy howdy was this a frustrating read.

The story was so fractured.  It jumped all over the place. And a lot of scenes seemed very brief. I felt I was reading the equivalent of a long movie trailer instead of the movie itself.

So many panels were just cutaways to events happening, I imagine, in other books.

The only saving grace for me was Yu’s art. I LOVE his artwork. I will buy any book he works on.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Nice review

Oh boy, I’m debating whether to tear this to shreads with my own review….

  2. And look at the price, just look at that price!

  3. This was my first exposure to Bendis and it’s not a favorable one.  I’ve heard great things about him and luckily I did read his issues leading up to the SI event.  Those lead-in stories, especially those in the New Avengers, were good and they seemed to have a weight about them, either way they were much more captivating…so what a let down later.  I’m hanging on with the New Avengers and Mighty Avengers hopefully they will move to the top of the stack, for now there somewhere in the middle.

  4. SlySally, Bendis is off Mighty Avengers – he;s doing Dark Avengers instead starting next month.  I agree that this storyline was dissappointing.  It could have been Battlestar Galactica in the marvel universe and instead we got a lot of beautiful Lenil Yu two page spreads.
