[This stays abstract, no spoilers.]

I’ve been trying to only sound off about things I feel positively for in comix these days – but I gotta say, I was really underwhelmed by this issue. The “pen” scene seemed really abrupt & out-of-character for PRIV (I think there could be a place for that, but it wasn’t here). The dialogue felt heavy-handed & choppy compared to usual. And as provocative as some of the imagery wanted to be, the character interactions just didn’t bring much to the table this time. The writer character had his own pretty obvious motivations, but PRIV’s seemed to be all over the place in the span of a few pages.

As some have said before, the plot really seems to be slowing down. I know we get a cliff-hanger last page as usual, but the whole thing just didn’t elicit much excitement, for me at least. … I remember having pacing problems later on in issues of “Y” also, & BKV’s stint on “Lost” was really slow moving. Maybe this is just a dip in the story at present, or maybe BKV’s stuff does read better in larger trade-sized chunks. I dunno.

I’ll be here when it returns, overall a great title (I still rate this issue a 3 overall), but this one felt the weakest to date.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. One last thing: It really bugged me too that PRIV never loses a leg in this issue, present or flashback. That’s a pretty significant detail to have on the cover & not ever deliver on. Okay, I’m done. Promise.

    • This was the very first thing I thought of when I finished the issue. It really has no resemblance with the interior story at all. Very unnecessary.
